So, because it’s summer, I’ve been spending way too much time on the computer doing useless things and today I stumbled across something both useless and rare...
The Renault Safrane was an executive car that Renault released in ‘92 to go up against the XM and Pug 605. While the car ended up being not that popular in terms of sales, there was one noteworthy variant that made its way out of the showrooms and onto the roads, albeit in very small numbers. Yes, it’s the Safrane Biturbo, an AWD variant powered by the Alpine A610's biturbo V6 and tuned by famed German firms Hartge and Irmscher. Only 806 were ever made, so does that make !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! a nice price or crack pipe at €18K EUR ($20K USD)?

Actually the A610 had a single turbo engine, albeit similar in spec. It was 250hp (probably slightly more) while the Safrane was 262hp.

I love the Safrane Biturbo. But not at the price with the mileage

Fine.
264 hp
269 lb-ft
4112 lb curb wt
0-62 7.5 sec
155 mph top speed
what else?

Eh, close enough. ;) Anyways, the Safrane must have had smaller turbos because +12 hp seems awfully paltry for having one more turbocharger.

Sounds more like the Omega V8 to me but this one had to be manual because at the time nobody manufactured transverse AWD automatic transmissions strong enough.

Yeah, $20K seem more like something these will fetch in ten years’ time (if not more), definitely not now.

Knowing my fashion sense, you’ll have to make that judgement.

Not to say it wasn’t the case here, but the Omega V8 is the one I know to have shred automatic transmissions, which is odd considering the LS1/4L60E combo.

It’s in an odd situation; it’s certainly special but not as well known as the E34 M5 or Lotus Carlton. It is/will be a collector’s item for sure but it’s not really that desirable. But I’d love to own one nonetheless.

Me too but the price is a wee bit rich for a 20 year old French hatchback.

I think it’s closer to the Carlton because more limited in production; also, it makes me drool just thinking of a garage with a Safrane Biturbo and a Carlton in it :3

Oh boy those two together would make a fantastic dream garage. Just the thought of biturbo sedans with manual transmission give me funny feelings below the belt. Too bad that they are ultimately unreliable:/

Yeah, you’d need like a Saab 9000 CS Aero to reliably DD...oh, wait....

We’ve never had a 4L60/700R4 make it to 100k miles. It’s a garbage transmission from the factory.

Yeah, but I still voted NP because what else can you get with those bonafides for $20k? I mean, other than an A310...

The holy trinity of unreliability.. lol. But at least one of those cars should be working correctly while the others are in for repairs.

Or just get like a V90 or LS400 to actually move around.

Even if it’s twin turbo, manual transmission, and is one of less than 800 now?

Lovely car. I prefer the Pug and Citroen myself but for performance alone this probably has them beaten.
Plus it’s a full size French car with a hatch and two turbos. Me want.

Yep, nothing beats a Safrane Biturbo for French four-door speed as well as rarity. Also, extra points for being the spiritual predecessor to the Avantime and Vel Satis!
